dit is een live verslag:
Fort William World Cup
Reports made possible with the support of Vélirium Mountain Bike Festival
In the words of the Editor, who is onsite, "The weather is 'fookin 'orrible' here." High winds and lashing rain. Very cold. The weather forecasters obviously got it wrong.
The women are doing four laps and the men five, as anticipated. The first lap is slightly shorter, since it cuts out the first climb. Everyone is huddling in tents, trailers, and vehicles waiting for the start.
Lap 1 Part way throught the first (shortened) lap, Gunn-Rita Dahle (Multivan Merida) has an early lead of 17 seconds on her teamate Nina Gohl (Multivan Merida). Marie-Helene Premont (Rocky Mountain Business Objects) is 3rd at 30 seconds.
Lap 2 Early in the lap, on the climb, it is Premont with a lead of 40 seconds on Irina Kalentieva (Topeak-Ergon) & Gohl. Sabine Spitz (Specialized) is at 1 minute. Margarita Fullana Riera (Spiuk Illes Balears), Lene Byberg (Bikin'cyprus Int.) & Alison Sydor (Rocky Mountain Business Objects) are at 1:35. Kiara Bisaro (Team R.A.C.E.) is 19th. Dahle is back in the 40's, over 3 minutes down and is chasing hard. She has (obviously) had a mechanical and now has to make up some ground. The rain has stopped.. temporarily.
At the end of lap 2, Dahle has made it to the top 30. Nothing has changed in front.
Lap 3 On the climb at the beginning of lap 3, it is Premont leading. Gohl is at 40 seconds, Kalentieva at 50 seconds. Fullana, Byberg & Spitz are at 1:40. Sydor 8th, then it is Ren Chengyuan, Blaza Klemencic and Maja Wloszczowska (Lotto). Bisaro is sitting 13th. Simms 17th, Dahle has moved up to 21st.
As they near the end of the lap, Gohl is charging and closing the gap to Premont. Kalentieva is another 30 seconds. Dahle has moved up to 10th
Lap 4 Premont still in the lead as they start the final lap, but Gohl is in striking distance. Kalentieva is 3rd but now well back. Byberg 4th. Dahle continues to move up.. now in 10th, but still ~ 1 minute back of Ren in 9th.
Part way into the lap, Gohl has caught Premont. Kalentieva is at 45 seconds. Byberg & Fullana are at 1:42. Spitz 2 minutes. Dahle up to 8th. Bisaro 13th, Simms 14th, Sydor 15th.
With less than a half lap to go, Gohl has a 20 second gap on Premont.
Unofficial
1. Nina Gohl (Merida)
2. Marie-Helene Premont (Rocky Mountain Business Objects)
3. Irina Kalentieva (Topeak-Ergon
