After running out of money late last year and then being acquired by a company out of the U.K., Titus Bikes is making its return at the Sea Otter Classic this week.
In November 2010, the mountain bike division of Planet X Ltd. purchased the brand, trade marks and assets of Tempe, Arizona-based Titus Bikes at auction. Planet X is an Internet bicycle retailer based in the United Kingdom and sells mountain bikes under its On One brand.
Now the company is saying Titus’ mainstay, the Racer X, will make its comeback at the Sea Otter Classic in its new 29-inch version. The company says the new Racer X 29 will sport a shorter wheelbase, steeper angles and quicker handling than the Rockstar with still 100mm of front and rear travel.
The RX29 will also feature a revised beefed-up carbon rocker link to increase lateral stiffness. The company will also offer a RX29 extra small with a 15-inch seat tube.
Meanwhile, the Titus Riddler is also being brought back, but in 29er form and will also make its debut at Sea Otter. Based on the geometry of the Fireline, the Riddler will be an American-made all-aluminum hard tail with a tapered head tube, hydro formed tubing and Titus proprietary replaceable dropouts so it can be run geared or singlespeed.
